Shabby Chic Party Decorations for a Spring Baby Shower in Florals

Nothing says springtime like florals in the sweetest pastel hues. So, if you combine dainty blooms with a shabby chic design style, you’ve got an absolutely adorable look for a spring baby shower (and for a spring birthday party, too)!

This look can be budget-friendly as well. Since flowers are everywhere come spring, finding an appealing assortment is a breeze—whether from your favorite farmers’ market or right from your own garden. Then, since shabby chic is all about “pleasingly old and slightly worn” furnishings and decor pieces, you might find all you need in your attic, basement, kitchen pantry, or Grandma’s porch. Just add a decorator’s eye and a few crafty touches here and there—and you’ve got a flower-filled, shabby chic Spring Baby Shower!

Garden-themed Vignette-style Centerpiece Arrangements

See how we assembled a garden-themed vignette-style centerpiece for the guest tables. The charming, shabby chic effect is thanks to dainty floral-patterned tea cups, a ceramic teapot, assorted garden pots and mini planters—each holding a bunch of spring blooms. And at the center, a decorative vintage birdcage resembling a miniature garden gazebo.

Use Goblets, Vases, and Mini Pots

We continued to play up the spring theme with flower-filled water goblets and glass vases, mini pots of fabric rosebuds, and packets of flower seeds used as table names. Even the party plate ware was chosen for its pretty floral border.

Think Dainty Flowers in Pretty Pastels

What flowers to use? The daintiest, sweetest, pastel-prettiest you can find—whether meadow wildflowers or plucked from your backyard or a forest path. Think asters (like the purple ones in the pic), dandelions, pansies, daffodils, freesia, or baby’s breath.

Find an Eclectic Mix of Tableware

In keeping with the shabby chic effect, feel free to use mismatched cups, saucers, dishes, bowls, platters, and trays unearthed from your cupboard; borrowed from friends and relatives, or purchased for a song in a yard sale or thrift shop. The key is to have florals and pastels colors to pull the look together!.

Transform Kitschy into Unique Table Decorations

Turn even kitschy decor items into charming accents for your guest tables. A pair of love birds in a tiny gilded cage is an example. You may have vacation souvenirs with a floral or spring theme—mini tulip place card holders, fabric butterflies, porcelain trinket boxes. Or perhaps baby accessories to suit the occasion and the shabby chic theme—crocheted booties, embroidered mittens, pacifiers tied with ribbon (visible in some of the photos).

A Charming and Relaxed Shabby Chic Spring Tablescape

The overall tablescape effect is charming, relaxed, and so inviting. The elements are casually assembled, nothing matches perfectly, yet all convey the freshness and newness of spring—so sweet for honoring the mom-to-be and the expected bundle of joy!

A Spring Garden Setting Right at Home

A farther view shows the appeal of the spring garden setting! Guest tables can be tucked amidst the greenery, paired with light wooden chairs and laid with table linens in muted pastels. (Tip: For an alternative table number, see our standee in the shape of a stork holding a baby bundle!)

A Garland Backdrop of Baby Clothes!

For the most darling outdoor backdrop, create a “clothesline garland” out of baby clothes and accessories hung with wooden clothespins. Add letter printouts spelling “It’s a Girl” and paper cutouts of butterflies and other symbols of spring. (Tip: The baby clothes can either be used pieces borrowed just as party props, or else brand new ones that are actually gifts for the infant on the way!)

Decorated Guest Chairs with Nosegays of Spring Flowers

For the guest chairs’ décor, nothing could be easier and sweeter than a little nosegay of spring flowers tied onto each chair back with pink ribbon. If you wish, each chair could have a different type and color of flowers.

Spring Gift Table with Shabby Chic Decorations

Finally, for the gifts table, look for something suitably shabby chic to serve as a container for the presents. We were so lucky to chance upon an adorable wicker “sleigh” that could pass for a baby carriage or crib! We simply added vintage-style ceramic pots and planters filled with more flowers, plus a gift table sign in a fancy carved frame.
