How to Plan a Victorian Themed Birthday Party
Bring the English tradition of afternoon tea as your inspiration for hosting a birthday party.
But why not apply a contemporary and even eclectic spin to it with your own Victorian-inspired
decorations, the perfect menu with your favorite bites, and fancy party favors to remember the
special occasion. We’re sure that the Duchess of Bedford would be tickled funny if she were to be
invited to your modern day Victorian tea party!
PICK PEARLS AND ROSES AS YOUR DECORATIONS
Why pick pearls and roses? They’re easy to find! Decorate your centerpieces and tables with strands of pearls, roses housed in shapely glass vases or whatever you may have on hand that can hold flowers such as mason jars, and add just a touch of gold to the scene. Include fabrics such as lace or linen tablecloth. Utilize vintage crockery if you have them available. You can also make use of an eclectic mix of teacups, saucers, and serving plates. As for tea decanters and pots, it would be ideal to have a container with an antique-look, but you can certainly make use of something modern. Think ceramic, sterling silver, or copper teapots. Finally, three-tiered stands for displaying sandwiches, dainty cookies, and petite-sized pastries are a must! Alternatively, you can make your own stands! See the post links at the bottom of the post for further reference.
CRAFT A DOABLE VICTORIAN PARTY MENU
Since you are planning a contemporary affair, your menu has more flexibility than a traditional English tea party. We do, however, love the idea of having the following elements that are still close to this tradition:
- A Victorian teacake made with whipped cream and strawberry jam filling – they’re actually quite light and go perfectly with tea!
- Scones with berries and clotted cream
- Cucumber tea sandwiches
Beyond the above menu items, we suggest these yummy options:
- Smoked salmon sandwiches
- Egg salad canapés
- Mini bacon and egg tarts
- Shrimp puff pastries
- Mini croissants with chicken salad
- Petit fours
- Blueberry cheesecake bites
- Pecan date bars
- Buttery madeleine cookies
- Lemon meringue cookies
