So much time and attention is spent on preparing for the wedding ceremony and reception. But don’t forget there’s still the honeymoon to come!
And to make the most of your honeymoon, you need to make a key decision early on: where to go! Of course, your final choice of destination will depend on your personal preference as a couple, what activities and surroundings you enjoy, and of course how much you are prepared to spend. But, budget permitting, these are some fabulous spots that you must consider. They’re not among the world’s most popular honeymoon destinations for nothing!
Morocco - If an exotic experience is what you want, then Morocco has got to be a top pick for you. Although there are modern city centers, such as the famed Casablanca, romance and mystery abound everywhere you look. Depending on what you fancy, you can marvel at the history and beauty of the ancient cities of Marrakech, Fes, and Meknes; go on a buying spree at the fascinating soukhs (bazaars); have a relaxing scrub at a hammam; take a trek to the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert; or chill out on the beaches of Tangier or Essaouira. And of course, have your fill of delicious kebabs with couscous and Moroccan mint tea!
Japan - If you’re eyeing a honeymoon in Asia, Tokyo is the place to experience one of the world’s busiest and most cosmopolitan cities—Japanese style. Shinjuku, the business and commercial district, offers not only top notch shopping and dining, but exciting nightlife as well. For top luxury brands from around the world, the famed Ginza district is hard to beat. Tokyo also offers Japan’s prized Mikimoto pearls and a chance to visit the old temple district of Asakusa right in the city. And to zoom from one point to another, the shinkansen (bullet train) is an experience in itself.
But for sheer architectural beauty, history, and culture all in one place, you must visit Japan’s former capital, Kyoto—with its numerous temples and Zen meditation gardens. An hour away by train is Osaka, another ancient city, that boasts of the historic Osaka Castle and Himeji Castle.
Paris - A honeymoon in “the city of lights,” Paris, is certain to be ultra-romantic! You’ll be surrounded by wonders of art and architecture, historical monuments, and cafés and restaurants famed the world over. Imagine being able to visit The Louvre musuem, housing the world’s largest collection of pre-20th century art; and that marvel of gothic architecture, Notre Dame Cathedral. Or taking snapshots at that icon of France, the Eiffel Tower; the imposing Arc de Triomphe; and the grand Champs-Elysées avenue. Numerous museums contain priceless works by European masters, while quaint areas like the Latin Quarter and the Montmarte district offer fascinating strolls. And of course, no honeymoon would be complete without a night-time boat tour along the Seine River!
