Pink VW Combi at Beach

Beach babe for a day! That’s the surprise you’ll spring on the bride-to-be for a totally fun-in-the-sun Retro Beach Picnic bridal shower! And by retro we mean the whole vintage bathing suit look, a la Annette Funicello in Bikini Beach. So have all the bridesmaids get their sunblock and beach towels ready! You’ll be heading out to romp in the sand and relax amidst a scene like this. Note: this theme would work just as well by a lake!

The key to this retro beach picnic theme is recreating that whole ‘beach babe era’ vibe. Think faded teal and muted coral for your base party palette. Then mix in pastels like soft pink, sea green, baby blue, and pale yellow. All in all, a lovely sun-faded look.

Get the guests all excited for the themed outing with cool beach picnic invitations. The kind with a tinted photo of pin-up girls of the ‘50s parading in their swimsuits. In other words, shower guests should come in similar vintage-style swimwear (luckily back in vogue these days)!

The fun starts with getting there. Pile all the ladies and your beach gear into a borrowed or rented vintage VW camper—in pink, if you can manage it! Then once you get to your spot on the sand, set up colorful striped beach umbrellas to shade the picnic scene of lounge chairs, beach towels, and coolers of ice cold drinks. And hand out colorful retro sunglasses for all to strike their best ‘beach babe’ poses!

For refreshments, have light sweets like ice cream sandwiches, cake pops, and cookies—in teal and coral, too, take note! And of course lots of refreshing juices, sodas, and water.  Be sure to pack a picnic basket of tasty sandwiches like tuna and crab. You may want to include beach favorites like fish tacos, too! To serve the drinks and food in style, use colorful picnic ware laid out on a vintage Coca-cola crate.

The bride is sure to take home a pretty sun-kissed glow from this beach outing. Plus, tons of photos of all you ‘bombshells’ having a blast of a bridal shower before the Big Day!
