Getting a Kansas Marriage License

Make sure you get all the legalities right! Refer to the full procedure here for obtaining a marriage license for the state of Kansas. Here it is in a nutshell.

Marriage license application process (for individuals who are 18 years of age or older):

  • At least one party must appear in person at the local District Court Clerk’s office.
  • Complete the application for a marriage license at that office.
  • Pay the marriage license fee (cash payments only).
  • Receive the worksheet that will be issued when the application is made. (Note: There will be a waiting period of at least 3 calendar days after the date you apply for your license.)
  • Complete ALL information on the worksheet and both parties must sign it.
  • Return this worksheet when picking up the license. (Note: Either person may pick up the license.)
  • Once the license is issued, you may have your ceremony performed anywhere within the State of Kansas, within a period of six months.
