Styling a Steampunk Afternoon Wedding Tea Party for Halloween

Ideas for a Steampunk Halloween Afternoon Wedding Tea Party

Are you looking for a truly offbeat theme for your Halloween-time wedding—but don’t want to go with the usual goth and ghoulish motif? Why not try steampunk! This form of science fantasy, that has broken into the party and, yes, even the wedding scene in recent years, is a fascinating blend of technology and vintage designs inspired by 19th century steam-powered machines. Pretty unique twist for a Halloween wedding tea party, don’t you think? Plus, we’ve tossed in a hint of time travel, too, for good measure. Want to see how it’s done? Read on!

Try a Unique Halloween Wedding Theme: Steampunk!

Unusual as a steampunk theme may appear for a wedding tea party, of all things, it actually incorporates period, vintage or antique elements. Which means you may actually have some usable accent pieces in your home attic or your family collections. Take a look at our inspiration board, and you may recognize a number of items you can bring into this theme.

Venue decorations

If you have (or can find) an intimate tea party venue with allusions to the 19th century industrial era (2)—brick walls, worn wood floors and wall paneling, exposed beams and piping—you’ve got most of the venue decor done for you! Simply add heavy, industrial-type tables and an antique bar cart (8), perhaps metal shelving or eye-catching accent pieces, such as vintage trunks holding hardware like large gears (7) and the like.

Table elements

The juxtaposition of antique and vintage elements comes in ideally through the table settings. Think gold candelabra and crystal goblets (2), as well as fine china ware (3) at each place setting. While to capture the wedding’s tea party theme, set out antique silver serve ware and tea spoons, porcelain tea cups and hand-crocheted doilies (8).

For a truly unique centerpiece-and-menu-holder in one, be creative with old style pieces, like an antique telephone (5), typewriter, camera, vintage books and the like.

Invitations and favors

Steampunk wedding invitations (1) may seem a bit tricky to source. But fortunately, there are professionally designed invites you can order online with the perfect use of colors, fonts, borders, and graphics.

And for wedding favors, choose gift items with an Old World look—perhaps heart-shaped compact mirrors (6) with a copper finish, vintage keys, or gold carved frames.

Cake and sweets

Any creative cake designer would jump at the challenge of creating a steampunk-themed wedding cake (4)—with all the gear embellishments, metallic-finish ganache, and even a “nuts and bolts” bride and groom topper. So just ask!

Echo the same look in other sweets, like cake pops and cupcakes also with metallic frosting and industrial-inspired toppers.
