Sinamay packaging project

Having a summertime wedding soon? Then, take the chance to present your bridal attendant gifts in a way that captures the festive, sunny vibe of the season. We have just the thing! In four simple steps, you can create fabulous packages for your gifts, using one ofthe most versatile packaging materials around—sinamay. The secret lies in using it in an ingenious and stylish way. See how basic wrapping supplies can transform even the simplest gifts into mini works of art—and in this case, touches of summer!

How to Do This Project

Step 1 – Assemble the materials. Obtain these: a sheet of sinamay, a sheet of wrapping tissue, wooden beads, glue dots or a glue gun, raffia strings, ruler, and scissors. Many of these items should be available on the Web or at your local craft store.

Hints:
1) In keeping with the summer wedding theme, we chose apple green sinamay and golden yellow wrapping tissue. But you can select colors to match your own wedding motif.

2) The size of the sinamay and tissue paper will vary depending on the item you plan to wrap. So, be sure to measure each accordingly.

Step 2 – Cut your sinamay sheet at least 4 inches larger all around than your sheet of wrapping tissue. Lay them flat, with the tissue underneath the sinamay. Then, center the gift item on top. If it’s in a box, position it in a diagonal fashion (here, we used a clear acetate box for demo purposes). Take the four corners of the sinamay and tissue paper, and gather them above the gift item to form a “ruffle”.

Step 3 – As you can see, the sinamay extends beyond the tissue, since we purposely cut it larger. This creates a stylish two-toned ruffle for your package. Tie the present shut with the raffia strings, and attach the wooden beads at random around the package using glue dots or a glue gun. For a fun finishing touch, cut out a pretty leaf-shaped tag and personalize it!

Step 4 – Before being presented to your bridal attendants, these lovely gifts double as part of the party décor. See how perfectly they complement the table display? How’s that for something fabulous in just four easy steps!

  1. love to wrap and was stone cold for a flat wedding present…loved your idea..just gave me new guidance for my gift…I went with traditional white, with white and silver sinamay, silver spirals and added a sheet of silvery stiff paper that I folded corner to corner accordion style….then bent this not quite in half, stapled in center and attached to center of gift….amazed myself…but needed your input…thank you so much

  2. Wow! That will look amazing! If you want to add a pop of color, you could also put in some fuchsia, but I think what you have should look fine!

  3. This is so cool and lovely! Like the step-by-step tutorial :-) Thank you for sharing at our ALL MY BLOGGY FRIENDS party !
