Wondering how to tailor a photo booth for a vintage wedding theme? Wonder no more! You can actually assemble one yourselves—using props you already own, can borrow from family and friends, or can gather from antique stores, Goodwill, or yard sales. The trick is selecting pieces that will all work together to create the perfect vintage vignette of a photo booth from way back when! So, what are you waiting for? Grab a prop and strike a pose!

Here are our suggestions for planning your own photo booth:

1 - Add chalkboard word bubbles. - Just the thing for guests to personalize their poses! You could DIY these using an online tutorial and some chalkboard paint. Or else stock up on some (they’re definitely reusable anyway!) from sites like Hello Lucky.

2 - Assemble assorted vintage frames. - Gather what you have, or buy from thrift shops and yard sales. Then hang them on a rod at the reception venue as your photo booth! Poptastic Bride shows how in this desert wedding inspiration shoot.

3 - Have photo booth tickets. - Such a fun way to remind guests to take their turn at having souvenir pics taken! This customizable ticket is offered by Cheer Up Cherup on etsy.

4 - Prepare face props on sticks. - These mustaches are everywhere! Just add some cute lips and funky bow ties. There are dozens of downloadable versions online (like these found via Pinterest, attributed to My Photo Booth.nl) or you can simply make your own!

5 - Dig up an antique traveling trunk. - This would make the perfect display case for all your photo props. We found this example via a real wedding featured on Whimsical Wonderland Weddings.

6 - Hang a selection of fun hats, caps, and headpieces on an old window frame. - These can be more yard sale and thrift shop finds, plus a DIY re-purposing project like this one by Arte Styling (easy how-to included). Then, add some scarves and ties for adding a fashionable spin! Alternatively, you can also use a coat stand to hold up the props.

7 - Set out actual eyeglasses and bow ties. - Prefer the real thing? Collect vintage-style glasses and colorful printed bow ties for guests to put on and pose with, and display them in a wooden drawer. Inspiration image found via The President Wears Prada.

8 - Display faux vintage necklaces, brooches, bangles - Pull these out of your personal stash or from Mom’s, plus borrow or ‘thrift’ some more. Then, find an old dressmaker’s dummy to hang these all on, like in this pretty pic from Smart Girl Consulting. A great decorative piece for your booth, too!

3 - This elegant table setting in amber and blush tones couldn’t be more perfect for the ultra-romantic reception we envision. Styled by Events in the City and featured on Love Luxe blog, it is just one aspect of an entire Parisian-inspired wedding shoot that is just one swoon-worthy image after another!

4 - It’s a Parisian wedding, so why not feel like a true fashionista! This stunning haute couture gown from Versace Atelier will appeal to any bride with a flair for something edgy and definitely has her own style!

5 - You’ve most likely seen this famous wedding cake creation by the Sylvia Weinstock before (image found via Wedding Tulle). But it somehow reminded us of Paris high fashion and the traditional French croquembouche all in one—executed in a mass of delicate white sugar roses!

As you browse through post after post, you not only see individual features captured in snippets, folds, and curls, but you also see meticulous gown details, itty-bitty bouquets and boutonnieres, and even charming personal touches like the couple’s beloved dog! Custom orders may be placed via email, plus ready-made items are available at their etsy shop.

Beach babe for a day! That’s the surprise you’ll spring on the bride-to-be for a totally fun-in-the-sun Retro Beach Picnic bridal shower! And by retro we mean the whole vintage bathing suit look, a la Annette Funicello in Bikini Beach. So have all the bridesmaids get their sunblock and beach towels ready! You’ll be heading out to romp in the sand and relax amidst a scene like this. Note: this theme would work just as well by a lake!

The key to this retro beach picnic theme is recreating that whole ‘beach babe era’ vibe. Think faded teal and muted coral for your base party palette. Then mix in pastels like soft pink, sea green, baby blue, and pale yellow. All in all, a lovely sun-faded look.

You have to admit that stripes add an uncommon yet chic look to a wedding reception. So when we stumbled upon this fresh post on Paper{Whites} that had lime green and white stripes on the wedding tables, we immediately thought, “What a fresh idea to share!” Just see how stripes are applied in this wonderful wedding. Soon, you will be thinking beyond mere black and white for using stripes at your wedding.

This sunshine-filled scene is actually from blog owner Alison’s own wedding. With the simple addition of lime and white striped runners extending the length of the tables, what a vision of light and freshness the entire venue was! (As Alison reveals, it was her mom who sewed all the runners using fabric on sale at Joann’s.) You’ve got to love this!

Our suggestions for making a similar stylish impact with stripes:

1. Choose a striking color and use only that against a base color (Alison’s lime green and white was echoed in the gorgeous bouquets and centerpieces by Magical Blooms).
2. Apply the stripes to only a few key elements (even one will do, if it’s as eye-catching as her table-length runners).
3. Keep the other table details simple and monochromatic for a clean and inviting overall look.

Recreating the fashion style and Art Deco aura of the 1920s is already such a dream. But add to that the romance of a period train station setting, and you’ve definitely got bygone era wedding magic! And like any magical moment, the trick lies in creating the illusion of being transported back in time to the genteel world of luxury train travel. Pack your bags, then (vintage suitcases, of course!). We hear the station master calling, “All aboard!”

1 - If you can manage to reserve a function room at an actual train station for your reception, that would be absolutely fantastic! It may not necessarily date back to the 1920s, but it could have all the interior details like wood paneling, tiled floors, frosted glass doors, chandeliers. Much like the beautiful Knoxville L&N Station featured on The Plunge Project.

2 - The 1920s were all about glamor and fashion! What could be more fitting than this absolutely gorgeous cake that appears to be patterned after a flirty flapper dress, found on Cakes Decor made by Sweet T & Cake from Australia. Don’t you just love the jeweled accents of chandelier earrings and a tiara on this exquisite creation?

3 - The bride and her wedding party must have that ‘Orient Express era’ look. So do visit sites like Love My Dress for some fabulous inspiration for 1920s dress styles, headpieces, and other accessories. This particular train station wedding shoot they featured, for instance, showcases three different bridal looks, captured by Aston & Ainsworth Photography. Check out the vintage gorgeousness!

4 - Table numbers and other decorative accents allow you to create some more 1920s magic. Note the Art Deco style font and graphics on the number card and that darling miniature speakeasy radio. 5 - Your centerpieces can go non-floral just this once, since a theme like this has so many fascinating details to style with. Take this antique camera (looks like a bookend, don’t you think?) on a stack of vintage books, that we found via Brittany Erwin Photography. Just tie on a bit of dainty lace and drape on a strand a pearls. Vintage chic right there!

6 - What would a train station wedding be without some vintage suitcases on display, right? They could hold the guests’ wishes or greetings for the newlyweds, as shown in this image from a 1920s garden wedding on Love My Dress. Or they could grace the reception entryway, the drinks bar, or the cake and dessert buffet.

7 - You’ve got to have some sparkle for the flapper style. So a rhinestone-encrusted lily bridal cuff like this one handmade by Stella’s Design on etsy would be just the thing! Can you imagine the breathtaking glitz of an accessory like this in all those hand photos at the wedding?

A surprise discovery is always sweet. Especially when it’s as heartwarming and delightful as this styled picnic shoot we stumbled upon at Belle Amour U.K. And we’re not talking ordinary picnic here. Blog owner Debs explains in her intro: “this is inspiration for a casual picnic wedding where guests sit on blankets on the floor and eat food wrapped in individual bundles.”

Blankets and food bundles aren’t even the half of it, though. This set is just brimming with charming handcrafted details perfect for a bohemian-style wedding in the forest. Or if a picnic seems too casual for a wedding, perhaps a cozy outdoor bridal shower for the bride and her BFFs!

What fun it was to search the web for the most innovative ring pillows to share as DIY wedding inspiration. Imagine that some aren’t even pillows at all! Although these items are available ready-made online, we chose those that you could quite easily recreate on your own. Just imagine presenting your wedding bands at the ceremony using one of these truly unique ring pillow alternatives!

1 - We’ve seen this pristine ivory ceramic ring bearer bowl featured several times, and just had to include it among our finds! A creation of Paloma’s Nest, it can be customized with your own personal wordings, ideal for hanging in your home after the wedding and passing on as a family heirloom!

2 - This is actually a vintage linen/cotton tea towel calendar transformed into a sweet little ring pillow! Who would have thought? Etsy shop Giggle Room customizes each calendar pillow by embroidering a heart around your wedding date. Makes a darling keepsake afterwards!

3 - Why not re-purpose a family heirloom or antique shop find into a quaint backdrop or carrier for your wedding rings? This vintage book ring holder idea we found on Texas Wedding Guide (attributed to 200 Dollar Weddings) would be a cinch to recreate. Just secure the rings with a strip of burlap or a length of antique lace.

4 - Have the world on a string at your wedding! Imagine this mini vintage-inspired globe used to present your wedding bands at a travel-themed wedding or one that celebrates your multi-cultural union! Available from etsy shop My Haley Girl.

5 - Yes, this is a ring “pillow”! This birch wood block with customizable metal plate, available at etsy shop Olive & Fern (featured on Etsy Wedding), is sure to be an attention grabber at a rustic, woodsy-themed ceremony or even a chic, modern one.

6 - Book lovers may flinch, but you have to admit these handmade book safes are perfect for holding a mini ring pillow for that walk down the aisle. You can order these from the Pommes Frites shop, which carefully selects each book for its looks and title. They even have book safes with heart-shaped cutouts inside!

What a thrill to find this delightful at-home bridal shower—also with Asian inspiration! We just love how Natalie of The City Sisters pulled together such a charming set-up in a pretty color scheme of pink, with Asian touches like cherry blossoms, bamboo, fans, and paper lanterns. And for the shower buffet, a mix of noodles, sushi, and dumplings along with pink-frosted cake pops, mini bundt cakes, and creamy raspberry “fools” (parfaits). It’s so pretty and yummy that we can’t help, but share it with you! Enjoy!

3. Menu: she served up various sushi rolls, steamed pork dumplings, edamame, wasabi peas (for snacking), and a great noodle salad adapted from Rachel Ray (recipe in post).

4. Desserts: instead of cake, she made lime-glazed mini bundt cakes, strawberry cake-balls, and raspberry fools. A fool is sort of like a parfait; made with cream, creme fraiche, and soaked raspberries, all folded together.

The love affair of lanterns and weddings seems to be making a comeback. And we couldn’t be more delighted! From tabletop centerpieces to stairway accents to wedding aisle decor, lanterns have such an appeal about them that’s an immediate styling plus. This gorgeous garden dessert table featured in Blowout Party, for example, was actually published a couple of years ago. But it’s so fresh and charming, it’s perfect inspiration for today’s summer weddings (you must check out all the lovely photos)!

1 - For a rustic-themed wedding, these evergreen tree seedlings are an ideal eco-friendly favor. Available from Plant a Memory, each seedling comes in its own burlap wrap with a card made from recycled paper. All 100% natural!

2 - Another great example of tree saplings! This lovely real wedding featured on Eco-Beautiful Weddings doesn’t give the details, but we presume you can buy these in bulk at a plant nursery. Then, just trim them with ribbon and a pretty card, and tuck them into each guest’s place setting!

3 - ‘Seed bombs’ bundled up in patterned paper wraps make attractive eco-favors. As explained on Intimate Weddings, they’re actually balls of clay, compost, and seeds (links to recipes are provided) that can be tossed into your own backyard to eventually sprout, grow, and bear flowers or fruit. Now isn’t that a great gift—to your guests and to nature?

4 - Packets of flower seeds come already prettily packaged, like these ones we found via Camille Styles Events. So all you need is some ribbon to tie on your personalized favor tags, then a sweet country basket or a large terra cotta pot to display them in!

5 - Mini potted herbs are another wonderful option for a garden wedding or a cooking-themed bridal shower. You can even match the containers with your color motif, as in this post on Historic Mankin Mansion, or provide recipe cards using each particular herb!
