Throwing a baby shower for a dear mom-to-be is always such a joy! Especially with a Spring Garden theme, the party decorations, games and favors are a delight to plan and put together. But the baby shower menu can be quite a challenge. So we did a little research to offer up delicious and doable ways to meet that challenge—thanks to some amazing real baby showers we found, plus a couple of our own styled sets/shoots. Each one revolves around a motif that you might choose for the occasion, and provides suggestions for dishes to desserts (with recipes for many of them)!

It includes (most with recipe links) Crunchy Veggie Wraps, Artichoke-Walnut Pesto Crostini, Hummus & Pita Chips (store-bought), Potato Salad Provençal, Fruit Cups (pineapple, grapes, blueberries), Mini Cake Donuts, and Homestyle Chocolate Chip Cookies. And all the yumminess is tied together with a Tiffany blue color palette!
2 – French Bistro-inspired Soiree
This casually elegant French-inspired dinner party from Eat Boutique is exactly what we were hoping to find! First of all, it provides a great simple menu of an aperitif, French onion soup, Chicken Paillard, Chestnut Pair Tatin, and Red Wine Chocolate Truffles—with a recipe for each item. Then, it presents all these on such an appealing table setting that you can easily replicate. Plus it even includes a printable menu to complete the look. Bon appetit indeed!
3 – Asian-inspired
Want a baby shower menu that’s light and fresh, and a bit different as well? Why not go Asian? Joanna of Lotus Haus offers up some great suggestions from her own baby shower!
She served appetizers of Asian Chicken Salad on Endive Spears and Lotus Root Stir Fry. Then, Chinese dim sum items like shrimp and chicken dumplings, egg rolls, pot stickers, and edamame (green soybeans in their pods)—plus 2 Philippine dishes, lumpia (crepe roll filled with cooked meat and veggies) and pancit (a Chinese-style noodle dish).
4 – “Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza” Party
If you prefer a sweet rather than savory selection, Darling Doodle Design brings us this adorable spin on a traditional pizza party: a Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza party! In place of pizza crusts, guests get to use oversized sugar cookies (recipe provided) to pile their choice of fresh fruit toppings on—strawberries, pineapple, kiwi and blueberries plus whipped cream. The bright, cheerful colors of the fruit, flowers and party decorations are just perfect, too, for such a happy occasion!
5 – Hearty Salad Bar Buffet
A salad bar is another fabulous choice for a baby shower menu—and not just for side dishes! Especially one that’s as generously stocked as this one we discovered via The Kitchn.
Filling items like Mustard-Glazed Salmon and Poached Chicken Breast allow guests to make a light meal out of this. While a tempting array of toppings and dressings (most with recipes provided) let them concoct their own flavor mixes with Romaine lettuce: French Lentil Salad, hard-boiled eggs, quinoa, herb garden potatoes, roasted heirloom carrots, roasted asaparagus, cherry tomatoes, olives, shelled pistachios, Dijon Vinaigrette, Quick Ranch Dressing and Preserved Lemon Vinaigrette. How delicious does that look!
6 – Brunch Party with Crepe Bar
Make it a brunch party with a full crepe bar featuring a variety of fruits and fillings like this one by Ashlee Marie. Offer up flavors like chocolate, cinnamon, and plain. As fillings, include sweet cream cheese, lemon sour cream, and a tart sour cream/cream cheese. Then for toppings, you can have hot fudge, berry coulis, and buttermilk syrup. Fruits can consist of bananas and a variety of berries.
7 – “Moonlight Mediterranean Menu”
What a thrill to have found this exotic option from another real event on Mother.ly—in fact, it was the blogger’s own baby shower as well! She dubbed it a Moonlight Mediterranean Menu.
Just reading through the list of dishes is like a flavor fest: Hummus platter with dips, olives, veggies and pita; Grilled haloumi with seasonal fruit and balsamic drizzle; Phyllo triangles filled with spinach and feta; Roasted vegetable orzo pasta; Marinated mozzarella with heirloom tomatoes on grilled ciabatta; and Grilled feta wrapped in grape leaves with rosemary honey. The desserts sound suitably decadent, too: Dates sautéed in olive oil and vanilla over Greek yogurt; Pistachio-walnut orange blossom baklava “cigars” and White nectarine gelato. Need we say more?
8 – “Diner en Blanc” French-inspired menu
The Diner en Blanc (“White Dinner”) is apparently a century-old French tradition. And if this all-white baby shower post featured on DIY Network is any indication, it’s a gorgeously fresh and pristine way to present party food! Even simple cheese boards with a selection of cheeses—from fancy French ones to the familiar cheddar—look so inviting presented with sliced crusty baguettes, golden croissants, bunches of grapes, sliced green apples, dates and figs. All set against white linens, vases of baby’s breath and garlands of greenery! (A note from this post: Serve only pasteurized cheeses as a thoughtful gesture to the mom-to-be.)
9 – A Pasta Party
A sure favorite with the baby shower guests—and with easily dozens of recipes to choose from—would be a Pasta Party, as shown in one of our own bridal shower shoots. You could opt to have an assortment of pre-cooked pasta noodles presented with an array of sauces from tomato-based to cream-based to oil-based. Then, of course, toppings like sun-dried tomatoes, bell peppers, olives, anchovies, sliced Italian sausage, grilled chicken strips, various herbs, and different cheeses to grate on top. As well as bread rolls and slices, bread sticks, herbed butter, balsamic dipping oil, and more cheeses and crackers on the side.
10 – Afternoon tea party
Take a step back in time and treat Mom and guests to an intimate Afternoon Tea Party! If you have a set of fine china tea cups, those would instantly set the mood. Prepare an assortment of tea bags (with some herbal ones for the expecting mother) and loose tea leaves in little baskets for guests to make their choices. Then, arrange delicate tea sandwiches, scones, pastry bites, cookies, and macarons on fancy silver platters and vintage cake stands lined with doilies. And to give as baby shower favors, package tea bags and iced sugar cookies in dainty tulle and lace purses.
11 – Spanish-inspired Tapas Party Menu
For something truly flavorful, give everyone a taste of sunny Spain with a Tapas Party! Tapas are Spanish appetizers traditionally served in small portions but in a wide assortment. You can easily search online for the most popular recipes: Jamon Iberico (Spanish ham) on toast, Spicy Sausage and Cheese Tortilla, Shrimp Fritters, Stuffed Tomatoes, Salt Cod Fritters, Empanadas (stuffed bread pies), and Patatas Bravas (spicy fried potatoes). There are many tapas favorites made with shellfish and other seafood, but these might not be advisable for a mom-to-be. Then, balance all the spiciness with ice-cold non-alcoholic sangria filled with fresh fruit bits!
12 – “Make Your Own Panini” Bar
A DIY panini bar is always popular with guests and easy on the party hosts! So get your panini presses ready and grab ideas from this scrumptious spread prepared by Kendall and Keith.
Their selection of sliced meats included Turkey, Roast Beef, Grilled Chicken and Bacon with a choice of either Sourdough bread or Rosemary Olive bread. Then they offered up an amazing variety of spreads (that included Artichoke Parmesan Pesto, Horseradish Sauce, Balsamic Onion Marmalade, and more), cheeses (Havarti, Gouda, Mozzarella, Brie, Goat and Cheddar), and toppings (like sun-dried tomatoes, roasted red bell peppers, artichoke hearts and basil). Yum!
