Alternative Wedding Bouquet Using Soda Cans

Unusual Wedding Bouquet

Are you avid about preserving the environment? Why make an exception at your wedding? Take a daring departure from the traditional bridal bouquet with one crafted from recycled materials. And we mean seriously recycled—as in empty aluminum cans! Don’t believe it? Take a look at this step-by-step procedure for assembling a large aluminum bloom and transforming it into a truly striking bouquet you can carry down the aisle with pride. Note: this project is for advanced crafters seeking a fun challenge.

Directions on How to Complete this Project:

Step 1 – Assemble your materials. You will need empty aluminum cans (the quantity depending on the size of bloom you intend to make), heavy-duty scissors, thin aluminum crafting wire, glass beads (that are stringed together like a bracelet), and metal tools for flattening and scoring the aluminum. Hint: using aluminum cans with a colorful design adds a decorative look to the bouquet.

Step 2 – Flatten the aluminum. Cut through the cans, so that you separate the top and bottom ends, and are left with separate rectangular pieces. Lay these flat.

Step 3 – Cut out vari-sized petal shapes. Again depending on your intended size for the finished bouquet, cut different sizes of petal shapes out of the aluminum (approximately 8-10 pcs. per petal size).

Steps 4, 5, and 6 – Add details to the petals. Use the different metal tools to give each petal a natural curve, then to score it with the central rib and “veins” of an actual petal.

Step 7 – Attach wire stems and glass beads. Punch a tiny hole at the end of each petal and attach a length of aluminum crafting wire through this hole. Secure the end of the wire to the petal with a glass bead. Note: To form the center of the finished bloom, prepare about 10 additional lengths of wire with just a glass bead on each.

Step 8 – Start forming the bloom. Gather the wired glass beads and petals and assemble them into a flower shape—with the smallest petals at the center and increasingly larger ones radiating around them. Tie these all together with more crafting wire.

Step 9 – Finish the bouquet stem with a ribbon. Dress up the gathered wire stems by winding white satin ribbon around them.

Step 10 – Prepare the bouquet’s bow. Form several lengths of satin ribbon into large, luxurious bows—matching your wedding color motif.

Step 11 – Connect the bow to the stem. Integrate the finished bow into the stem of the aluminum flower as you continue to wind the ribbon around it. Position the bows so that the flower nestles in the center of this bed of ribbons.

The Fabulous Finished Product

Just imagine the visual impact of this stunning creation as part of your bridal ensemble! Not only does it make a bold statement about valuing our planet, but it can also be displayed in an elegant vase in your home as a truly lasting and meaningful wedding memento.
