"Cinco

The Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo has gone far beyond its historical origins. Well, lucky for you! Especially if you’re tying the knot sometime in May, this gives you the excuse to schedule your rehearsal dinner around the 5th and have a real fun fiesta-style gathering!

And what would a Mexican fiesta be without the flavorful and spicy appetizers and dishes we all love—plus of course those zesty, refreshing margaritas. So we were just thrilled to stumble upon this fun margarita bar styled by our talented friend, Betsy Pruitt, of Belly Feathers! And we’re just as excited to share her creative ideas for you to use at your own rehearsal party.

We just love Betsy’s resourceful and practical approach to styling an at-home Cinco de Mayo party like this. Check out how she pulled together this great-looking display:

"Ideas

  1. She chose a cheery palette of marigold orange, goldenrod yellow, and lime green based on party ware she had bought at Walmart a year prior (how’s that for advance planning?).

  2. With that color trio as a base, she selected vinyl table cloths, serving trays, and melamine plates to match. So cute of her to admit that she actually carried a sample plate around in her bag to be able to match items properly!

  3. One of the table cloths ended up as a pretty floral backdrop for the party buffet table.

  4. Two of the plates were transformed into a two-tiered tray for the lime slices.

  5. The star-of-the-show margaritas were made according to their “house recipe” and served in a large dispenser with salt-rimmed glasses waiting at the ready. For guests who preferred the frozen variety, they even had a margarita maker on hand.

  6. Large saucepans offered a tempting selection of Chile Colorado and Chicken Verde, prepared by no less than Betsy’s husband!

  7. Alongside were bowls of roasted tomato salsa placed in terra cotta pots (love that touch!), labeled mild and spicy—plus tortillas, sour cream, and guacamole.

  8. A barrelful of Coronas in ice and multi-colored bottles of Jarritos sodas completed the Mexican-themed beverages.

  9. For dessert, Betsy even made no-fry Fried Ice Cream with a crunchy honey cinnamon topping. Yum! (She kindly gave the link to her recipe, too.)

  10. To round out the fiesta look, she added wonderful accent pieces like her own handmade papel picados banners, a giant copper tray borrowed from her father-in-law, and a vase of sunny yellow flowers.

All in all, such a welcoming scene just perfect for a Cinco de Mayo-themed party…your own rehearsal dinner included. Huge thanks to Betsy for the all the fun and festive inspiration!

Be sure to drop by her blog, Belly Feathers, for more of the same all year round!
