Styling Tips for Rustic-Glam Thanksgiving Table Settings

Thanksgiving Table Settings with Copper Accents

The 6 sample table settings we’re featuring (please see the source links in the Credits below) are such a treasure trove of ideas! But rather than describe each detail, we’ve summarized the general styling approach that made us swoon over these gorgeous displays—and are presenting it as 5 doable tips.

Tip 1: No orange is ok!

It’s easy to go overboard with the bold, rich colors of autumn, especially orange, rust, and brown. But notice how these settings keep things toned down. The better to showcase the Thanksgiving spread!

Tip 2: Go with neutrals and naturals.

With the colors muted, the natural textures of the season get the chance to shine. Think materials like burlap, raffia, wood, bark, basketry, and woven table linens. Simple stripes, checks, and a hint of plaid add charm, too.

Tip 3: Focus on fall harvest elements.

Autumn’s abundance is what Thanksgiving is all about. So create centerpieces out of white or beige pumpkins (from large to mini), fall fruits, white corn, wheat sheaves, acorns and other nuts.

Tip 4: Choose base colors + add accent colors.

A perfect base for all the elements would be white or cream dinnerware and serve ware—and perhaps place mats or a table runner in gray or slate. Want a bit of contrast? Add blue patterned china or green glassware.

Tip 5: Bring in the gleam of copper!

Now for the glam touch. Include copper accents in the form of Moscow mule mugs, plate chargers, napkin rings, or place cards. You can even mimic the same copper tone with amber-tinted vases and votive candle holders.
