Creative Ways to Wrap a Wine Bottle with Fabrics: Go DIY or BUY

A bottle of wine is a classic gesture to wish others well. It makes a gracious hostess gift, a nice welcome at a new neighbor’s housewarming, an ideal milestone birthday present, and a festive way to celebrate any holiday. But rather than just grabbing a bottle off the shelf and giving it as is, we suggest wine packaging with a personal touch to make it extra special!

You can take the DIY approach using repurposed scarves, fabric scraps, garments, or an easy crochet project. Or you can buy ready-to-use wraps, bandanas, tea towels, handkerchiefs (in bulk if you’ll be giving several wine gifts), plus other fun packaging items we’ve picked for you. DIY Wine Gift Wrapping Ideas

No major crafting skills needed here! Just a creative eye for items that can be repurposed as packaging. Then tying, knotting, gluing, and adding decorative accents. That’s it! (Okay, there is one simple crochet project, but we’ll show you how you can get around it if needed.)

Wine Bottle Gift Packaging Using Scarves, Towels, and Upcycled Denim.

Wrapping with Scarves, Tea Towels, or Napkins

You may have heard of the Japanese style of fabric wrapping called furoshiki. Well, it’s perfect for presenting a wine bottle gift in style – using a spare dress scarf you may have (1), a lovely linen tea towel (2), or a large fabric napkin (9).

Also using tea towels, you can fold them over to form bottle pouches (6) secured with twine. Then, add seasonal elements like dried herbs, flowers, fruit slices, and berries for a festive finish.

Repurposing Garments & Fabric Scraps

For a casual, country look, try converting denim jeans’ legs (3) or jacket sleeves into bottle bags. Then, trim with burlap flowers and kraft paper tags.

For a tropical or luau themed event, use orange-printed fabric scraps, tissue paper leaves, and twine for a “pineapple” bottle wrap (4). Or create bottle sleeves out of burlap strips (8) adorned with starfish, shells, and colored bows for a beach or nautical motif.

Crochet Packaging

For the crafty, this is a sweet and easy DIY – especially with the simple tutorials for a crochet bottle bag (5) and crochet bottle sleeves (7) provided. But you can “cheat” by repurposing sweater sleeves instead!
