DIY Basketball Party Decorations

This theme is so much fun to decorate a party around, as you can see from these colorful and creative examples. Thanks, mommy crafters and party stylists for creating such inspirational and doable ideas!

For the party colors, take your cue from basketballs themselves and go with orange and black. Then, apply these throughout the decor. A basketball piñata, perhaps? Or why not a striped black and white “referee” tablecloth, basketball bottle labels, orange cheering pom poms, and of course a basketball cake (1).

Stretch your imagination further with unique DIY accessories, like this basketball hoop serving tray (2) to display party goodies and treats; or a “game table” resembling a basketball court (3), piled with court-design party plates, ball baskets filled with goodies, little toy basketballs, and even the party menu written on an orange-framed dry erase board.

For a mix of buy-and-DIY, create fun March Madness centerpieces (4) using glass cylinders edged with white cardstock, then filled with dollar store “Easter egg basketballs” (right in season at this time, too!).

Score high points with the party table settings (5) as well. Take a look at the clever touches on this one: a woodgrain paper runner to simulate a court, a hoop net draped over a vase with an actual basketball on top, orange megaphones, basketball party napkins, and play dough balls with personalized pennants as place cards!

And as a backdrop to a dessert, favors, or drinks table (6), how cool is this chalkboard-type bunting to match a March Madness bracket in an antique frame (gotta love that contrast!), plus the orange honeycomb spheres suggesting basketballs?

Edibles are always sure winners! So think up some yummy ways to give orange sweets and snacks packaged as basketball-inspired favors. These ideas are sure to get your imagination going: Orange gumballs in bags with printable toppers (1), bags of homemade Pepperoni pizza snack mix (2), Mandarin orange “basketballs” created with food-safe markers(3), Slam Dunk Cookies (4) made with white Reese’s PB cups as basketball hoops, and Cheese balls in orange cups (6).

Lastly, give these bright orange votive glass candles* decorated with a basketball net motif (4) that are so easy to make via the blog of La Crema Winery. Attach a whimsical tag with a saying like “I hope your March is a Slam Dunk.”
