How to Hammer Out a Thor Theme for a Birthday Party

Exciting news, Avengers fans! We’ve got an Avengers party theme series in the works. And this first post in that series channels the Asgardian god of thunder: Thor!

The Marvel Universe may seem pretty complex to recreate if you’re planning a small, at-home gathering for a birthday boy. But anything Avengers is just so popular, you can actually semi-DIY the essentials with all the party supplies, props, toys, and accessories out there! Just take a look at these ideas we’ve gathered. Your kiddie celebrant will be Thorilled to have these touches of his fave superhero to celebrate with! (*this post contains an affiliate link)

Party Basics to Set the Thor Theme

Thor party invitations, food, and cake.

It all starts with a really cool teaser like this Thor Mighty Avenger Invitation (1), available on Amazon. Imagine the excitement for the little guests!

Then, for the must-have Thor, the God of Thunder birthday cake (2) as found on Broadway Bakery, you can order one from a custom cakes supplier near you. Or get creative with a frosted store-bought cake that you can decorate with a Thor mini action figure, a toy Thor hammer, and other Avengers accessories!

Thor-inspired Treats and Drinks

When it comes to party treats, there’s no shortage of clever and easy recipes you can try. Check out these Thor’s Hammers made with pretzels & cheese chunks (3) we found on Pinterest. A second version of Thor’s Hammers using Krispie treats (4) from This is the Blog. And a third, called Mjolnir treats (5) after the mythical weapon of the Norse god of thunder, a recipe from 2 Geeks Who Eat. Wow!

Even your party drinks can be themed and kid-friendly, too. This fun Thor Kid Drink (6) from A Worthey Read is a sparkling mix of Sprite, blue Gatorade, blue syrup or lemonade, and cherry limeade—plus Mjolnir molded ice cubes!

Party Game and Favor Ideas

Finally, you’ve got to have games for the “little Thors” at the party. We found two versions of a knock-down-the stacked-cups contest. Thor’s Hammer Throw Game (7) from Simple and Seasonal and Thor’s Throw (8) found on Pinterest. An easy alternative would be to use toy Thor’s hammers to burst balloons with surprises inside.

And of course, the party favors! Thanks to Mindy Starr of Get Creative Juice who shared amazing Avengers party details, grab ideas for ready-to-give party favor packs and Thor hammer favor boxes (9) available online. No hassle, just fun.

That’s it! Your birthday boy’s superhero adventure party, starring Thor, is good to go!
