So Pretty for Fall! Rustic and Romantic Styles!

Bridal gowns for rustic fall weddings from vintage to boho styles.

Go Vintage/Boho

Something about fall just seems to suit a bohemian theme. So now would be your chance to scour those vintage shops and online sites, and find a lovely piece featuring ultra-soft fabric, embroidery, and beadwork (1). Or if you’re a free spirit who loves the gypsy bride or flower child look, autumn is the season for you. You could work in elements like antique lace, patchwork, appliques, more elaborate embroidery and beading, fringes, or a cozy crocheted shawl.

Play Up the Contrast

You’ve surely seen the hugely popular contrast of a feminine bridal gown with a pair of cowboy boots underneath (2)—a look you can extend to your bridesmaids, too, at a full-blown Western-themed wedding! Or do the unexpected and wear a strapless gown with a sweetheart bodice (3) and a softly flowing full skirt. Your choice of fabric, too, can be something normally seen at spring or summer ceremonies—such as delicate chiffon, lace, or tulle. Worried about the autumn chill? We’ve got you covered…

Don a Wrap

Yes, you can always have a lovely bolero, bridal jacket, or shawl designed to match your dress. So you can slip it on when needed, and still have a polished, pulled-together look. Another option for a more casual wedding would be a patterned top—plaid would suit the season perfectly (6)—or even a cute colored cardigan that would keep you nice and warm, too.

Add Feminine Touches

Just like our suggestion on contrast, allow the typically rough and woodsy vibe of fall to set off ladylike design elements. Think gossamer-soft fullness (5), ribbons and bows (6), ruffles, scalloped edging, sheer overlays, dainty lace. Then since an outdoor venue may make a veil impractical, consider a hair ornament or headpiece that’s sweet and feminine, too (1, 3).

Spring a Modern Surprise

Finally, since autumn seems to suggest well-loved traditions (could it be the Thanksgiving spirit in the air?), we thought of another way to pull a surprise. Go for a modern gown! Maybe one with unique sleeves (4) or an asymmetrical neckline or skirt. Or featuring a figure-hugging silhouette in gorgeous lace (7). Perhaps a colored dress or one with a slinky satin fabric not expected for this season.

So have we managed to ‘shake up’ the rustic stereotype for wedding dresses in the fall? As you can see, the romantic look is a definite option.
