July 4th Wedding Inspiration: Vintage Americana Goes Retro

July 4th patriotic wedding invitations

A 4th of July wedding theme has had so many wonderful and creative variations over the years. The challenge, then, is how to make it your own. The option we’ve come up with here is a Vintage Americana style with a casual and whimsical retro spin. Fun, easy to decorate, plus versatile enough to toss in personal touches while still honoring the red-white-and-blue. So, here’s our salute to the all-American holiday with wedding inspiration for your Big Day!

Add Crisp Details with a Chic Red, White, and Blue Palette

1 – Fun place card holders – Almost like a spin-off from the table setting is this detail you could so easily recreate: old-style Coke bottles with red striped straws and blue ribbons to hold your guests’ place names. Go see more ideas from this fun real wedding via Rock N Roll Bride!

2 – Inviting table setting – Love the appealing table elements here: bright pops of red florals in vintage bottles, little blue flaglets as place markers, and a map table runner! Just one of the delightful ideas from a vintage Americana shoot by Elana Dweck of Melangerie Inc. and Ara Farnam of Rock Paper Scissors Events (found via Behance.net).

3 – Playful bridal ensemble – Not sure if that’s supposed to be the bride (in red!) and groom…or their bridesmaid and groomsman sneaking a smooch! But we love the casual chic of the flirty short dress, the seersucker suit, the summer hat and loafers, spotted on Ruffled blog.

4 – Mod-retro invitations – Snappy stripes and a patriotic palette give this invitation set by Pink Piggy Design (via Hadley Designs) a fitting 4th of July look. And by playing with fonts, you could create a modern, retro or vintage vibe.

5 – Bold red bouquet – This bridal bouquet of lipstick red roses and anemones makes a great style statement. Then, for a bit of Americana charm, the stems are wrapped with a red and white gingham patterned ribbon. Thanks to an amazing 1940s Americana wedding shoot by Marry This!, found via Fleurology.

6 – Centerpiece vignettes – Vignette-style centerpieces are an easy way to carry on the Americana theme and personalize your tables, too! Take a cue from this example via a real wedding featured on Green Wedding Shoes: a paper-wrapped cylinder table number, bits of fishing tackle, a flower basket, lace and burlap.

7 – Charming wedding cake – Such a sweet and simple nod to the red, white, and blue, don’t you think? Spotted via Storyboard Wedding, and readily doable with a basic white-frosted cake and your choice of flowers and berries!

Don’t Forget the Treats for Guests!

Favor pies for guests

Almost a ‘must’ for 4th of July events, why not the cutest mini pies as wedding favors? This image via Best Day Ever Hawaii gave us another idea, too: add a fun sparkler for each guest to light up as part of your send-off! Alternatively, make it easy for guests to take wedding treats home with foldable ‘window’ boxes like these. And as shown on Elizabeth Anne Designs, add a patriotic touch with perky little flaglets!
