We’re thrilled to be featuring another lovely wedding, sent in to us by B Wedding Invitations all the way from Australia! The couple, Ashleigh and Adam, actually met on an airplane on the way to Thailand and ended up travelling in a group together for three weeks. They remained great friends after that, but only started seeing each other many years afterwards. Then, in 2016, they tied the knot at a colorful, rustic-style wedding full of personal touches and DIY elements. Come and see the highlights we love from both the ceremony and the reception.
A Colorful and Charming Outdoor Ceremony
As Ashleigh herself explained, the style she and Adam envisioned for their wedding was, “Lots of color, lots of fun, lots of greenery. No white and green styling in sight. Everything had to be really vibrant and colorful.”
The photos attest to that. Yet, we love how the multiple colors are also muted, from the gorgeous bouquets of the bride and bridesmaids to the flower-decked canopy for the exchange of vows – lending sophistication to the rustic outdoor ceremony.
For her wedding gown, Ashleigh revealed that she had specified a fitted style with a long, embellished train, but “no lace.” Instead, her gown incorporated appliques and different mesh materials to get a more modern take on a traditional dress style. The bridesmaids were in blush pink short dresses, complementing the lovely pastel florals.
And how could we not mention their darling pet dog taking part in the walk down the aisle!
A Gracious Reception with Personalized DIY Touches
Again, Ashleigh shares about the personal elements of their reception. “A lot of the styling was DIY. We were very hands on!” “We” was her for all the concepts and her mom who brought them to life. Mum hand wrote all the place cards and table numbers, hand-painted 80 sets of oyster shells to serve as salt-and-pepper shakers, and scoured the internet for the perfect vases for the table settings. And we see the lovely result in the elegant tablescapes graced by pink floral arrangements – plus matching pink blooms on the semi-naked wedding cake!
For the reception menu, they even got to DIY “his and hers” canapes from their favorite food items: fish tacos for Ashleigh and hot chippies for Adam – topped with little toothpicks labelled “from the bride” or “from the groom.”
Since the venue’s ceilings were really high and the room was massive (as can be seen in the photos), they needed decorative elements with height to fill the space. So, Ashleigh’s uncle, who runs a family nursery, arranged for 16 oak trees to be shipped to the venue. “We wrapped them all with fairy lights,” Ashleigh describes, “and the end result was just incredible!”
Her talented cousin pitched in, too, by styling a huge flower wall to serve as the backdrop for the couple’s DIY photo booth.
Many thanks again to B Wedding Invitations for allowing us to share Ashleigh’s and Adam’s most special day. Truly an honor and a delight for us – and definitely an inspiration for other couples in planning!
