Everybody loves a summer picnic! But would you consider one for your wedding? Well, any misgivings you might have may just be overcome by the wedding picnic inspiration we’ve got for you here! We decided to go for an English-inspired picnic with a contemporary look marked by Bohemian and vintage touches. And we gathered images and ideas to help you recreate that ambiance. Pure picnic prettiness coming up!

Time for Tea! Such Lovely Details

Wedding picnic food, decorations, and flowers

1 – For your wedding dress, we suggest a stylish blend of bohemian (this is a picnic wedding after all) and classic. A bit of a challenge, we know! But then we stumbled upon this lovely bridal look, by Gillian Million, at a real garden wedding featured on Love My Dress. The headpiece/head scarf has that slightly gypsy look but in sparkly seed pearls—and you must see the matching cuff!

2- To mark such a special occasion, a few bottles of wine can be added to the traditional English teas in your basket. Visit your local wine shop for suggestions on U.K. varieties to suit the theme. Then, use a charming wine caddy to tote them to your picnic spot (image via The Broadmoor Blog).

3 – As for the wedding menu, think picnic food with a stylish spin like these dainty afternoon tea sandwiches and pastries served up on pretty tiered stands. Image by A Most Curious Party.

4 – Bring in your color palette with flowers such hydrangeas, white roses, and lavender. Add rustic charm with a band tied with simple raffia strings! Created by Kio Kreations.

5 – Set the scene with the most charming vintage picnic details you can gather. This image we found via Wedding Ideas is a perfect example with a sweet hodge podge of shabby chic crockery, floral-patterned boxes and tins, jam jars and colored bottles, scrumptious treats all centered upon a “naked” wedding cake—all laid out on a quaint pastel quilt.

6- The summer sun could get a bit much! So the perfect guest accessory and picnic prop would be a lovely lace parasol or two. Elle Gound featured this pretty one on a real picnic post on her blog. And you can readily find suppliers online for your own wedding date!

Easy and Elegant Picnic Essentials for Your Wedding!

Picnic blankets, scones, and glass goblets

1 – For your picnic blankets, skip the usual checks or plaids. The proper backdrop for an English picnic has got be a pastel-colored quilt. How gorgeous is this one from Fave Quilts with its floral print in pink, aqua, and green!

2 – Since this is a summer picnic, do find a way to bring along some refreshing sorbet—if only as a reason to use pretty glass sorbet goblets like these! We spotted them on Dream Box Interior Design (available from Not On the High Street) and knew they just had to be part of this picnic tableau.

3 – You must include scones among your picnic goodies. Feeling a bit intimidated, though, about making this tea party staple yourself? Thank goodness for this great recipe from Bird’s Party—complete with raspberry jam and clotted cream!

  1. Gorgeous! I think a wedding picnic is a great idea (just make sure there is comfortable seating for those who can’t easily sit on the ground!) My best friend had a beautiful beach picnic wedding. Each “table” was a picnic basket filled with a blanket, wine bottle, breads, cheeses, meats, fruit, and more! It would make a lovely birthday event as well.

  2. Hi Jenni! Your friend’s picnic wedding sounds fabulous. And we really enjoyed putting together the suggested elements for this post — so much pretty picnic inspiration out there! Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
